![]() Unfortunately, your strategy didn't work. But we're always here to help if you get stuck □ The tutorials will help you learn the terminology that you need to use the manual. Also don't miss Help menu > Inkscape Manual. In case you were taking the long way around to ask how to use Inkscape, I'll refer you to Inkscape's Help menu > Tutorials > Basics, Shapes, and Advanced (don't worry, the one named advanced really isn't, and in fact is an introduction to the most basic and important parts of vector graphics). I might choose this way, because then I could save 2 files - one file with the original color (so you can see it if you need to edit) and another file with the proper code which is missing the color values. However, I'm thinking that perhaps whoever told you that meant to manually remove the color value from the SVG file, using a text editor. But the file won't be empty, it will just have an invisible object in it. And then of course the file will appear to be blank, by looking at the canvas. I guess you'd have to remove the stroke right before you save the file. Then there will be no inline color value. The easiest way I can think of is to draw the icons, perhaps using a stroke and no fill, so that you can see what you're doing, and just don't give them any fill color. Searching on this term with Google, within Inkscape's docs, and in this forum gets me nowhere! I guess it's somewhat obvious that, if I create an icon in Inkscape using black ink that it'll remain that way, but if I remove the colour from the graphic, then what am I left with?!Ĭould someone please tell me - perhaps through a series of simple steps (if nothing else, I can follow good directions!) on how I'd use Inkscape to create/edit and save a simple graphic that has no inline colour in it. What I'm being told is that I have to "remove the inline colour from the SVG graphics" to make them usable. My eventual aim is that the website building tool that I use can then alter them to my needs - size, colour, rotation, etc. As a rule, all are drawn in black because I figure that's the most basic of colours. Some of these illustrations I want to create from scratch and some will have been acquired elsewhere, either as a native SVG or a PNG that I've converted to SVG. I've tried saving them in numerous different formats offered by Inkscape to no avail. Make sure to check out how to create an offset and how to curve text in Inkscape.I have combed the 'net looking for a straightforward solution to properly formatting and saving simple monochromatic illustrations in Inkscape that can be used as website icons. Select all objects then click on the Path menu and click Union. To prevent issues with cutting the design needs to be made into a single path. Next, right click and Ungroup the design into individual objects. With the text selected, click on the Path menu at the top then Object to Path. Once converted the text edit options will no longer be available. Be sure to finalize your text before converting to a path. To prevent this we will combine the design as a single object. These areas will be cut when sent to a cutting machine. Click on the Object menu and then Fill and Stroke. Resize your text if needed.Ĭhange the color fill and stroke to better see the overlapping areas. Type out your text and change the font at the top left. Wait two weeks to allow the spores to die out, then gather in your potatoes. Tubers can become infected and rot in the ground (or later in storage) unless foliage is removed promptly when blight has been spotted. Potato leaves commonly darken at the edges with white mould occurring at the paler edges of the dark patches followed by destruction of the entire leaf. Signs of potato blight are unfortunately common in summer. These include potatoes ‘Coquine’, ‘Sarpo Axona’, ‘Sarpo Mira’, tomatoes ‘ Crimson Crush’, ‘Mountain Magic’ and ‘Losetto’ (bush) Happily, resistant potato and tomato cultivars are available, and better ones are being bred. No pesticides to control blight are available to UK gardeners. Tomatoes are affected too, although greenhouse tomatoes often escape damage because the plants remain dry. Blight attacks usually follow warm rainy weather and are commonest in mild, wet western regions. Like algae it must have a wet environment to survive. While blight is often considered a 'fungal' disease, the blight organism itself is not strictly a fungus but is more closely akin to an algae. Potato blight is the most important potato disease in Britain and in fact is of global significance. Spores will also overwinter in infected seed potatoes, so you should only plant certified disease-free seed potatoes. The spores only overwinter in living plants, so remove any volunteers and solanum weeds. If you must use sprinklers, water in the morning or early evening, so the leaves can dry out before nightfall. It is important that leaves don’t stay wet for long periods, so ideally you should use drip irrigation. To minimize the effects of this disease, make sure the plants have good drainage and air circulation (staking and pruning can help with tomatoes). Newer varieties specifically bred for resistance include Ferline’ F1 hybrid and 'Fantasio’ F1 hybrid. Resistant tomato varieties include: Stupice, Legend, Juliet and Matt's Wild Cherry. Resistant potato varieties include Defender, Cara, Sante, Cosmos, Romano and Jacqueline Lee. The following varieties are considered blight resistant, though strains of the disease vary in their virulence and even resistant varieties may not be immune. If growing conditions are always favorable to this disease then its best to use resistant varieties. This disease affects yield, but doesn’t affect storability (don’t replant these of course). The only thing you can do in these circumstances is dig the tubers 2 weeks after the tops die down and use them. In Western Washington whole beds of Tomatoes and Potatoes died almost overnight. In cool wet weather you should watch for signs of infection and remove any affected plants immediately, but it’s an indication that the plants aren’t happy with the growing conditions. Brown sunken patches appear on the tubers and may spread into the flesh causing it to rot (or provide entry for other rot causing organisms). It first manifests itself as gray-brown necrotic patches on the margins of lower leaves, but these quickly enlarge and kill the whole leaves (sometimes overnight). This fungus prefers high humidity, wet weather and mild temperatures (50 to 80 degrees F). They can also be carried on the wind and in the right conditions they can travel long distances rapidly (as happened during the Potato Famine). The spores are most often carried by soil splashed on to leaves by rain or overhead irrigation. It is called Late Blight because it prefers warmer weather than Early Blight and usually occurs later in the year (it doesn’t usually bother early crops). Though best known as a potato disease, it also affects tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. This fungus disease is notorious because it caused the Potato Famine that killed one and a half million Irish people and causing another million to emigrate. Others were pretty indifferent about the matter, and looking on themselves as mere machines, hoped to set their springs so well agoing as to make the men stark mad.” Not all the ladies were silent, and the splendidly named Archangela Tarabotti wrote A Defense of Women. One gathers from a commentator that “the ladies of Italy took this system very differently. It was now in Italian, and was entitled Women do not have a soul and do not belong to the human race, as is shown by many passages of Holy Scripture. The pamphlet, however, often bound with the refutation by Simon Geddicus, survived, and it appears that it was published at Lyons in France in 1647. Simon Geddicus, a Lutheran scholar, launched a mighty counter-pamphlet entitled A Defense of the Female Sex, in which he proposed “manfully” (he actually uses the word viriliter) to “destroy each and every one of the arguments put forward by Valentius,” who, the reader will learn with regret or satisfaction as the case may be, took a seizure and died. If he thought the pamphlet would amuse, he was grievously wrong. In Latin the word homo, like the word man in English, primarily means “a human being, male or female, young or old,” but has the secondary meaning of “adult male.” Valentius thought it would be fun to use this ambiguity to “show” that in the Bible only adult males have souls. He thought to turn an honest penny by publishing a “diverting” pamphlet. A young scholar, Valentius Acidalius, was working as a teacher in Silesia, and, like many young scholars, he was short of money. The story begins, innocently enough, in the late sixteenth century. The bishops of course decreed no such thing, for if women do not have a soul how could they be baptized, how receive the Eucharist, how be venerated as martyrs in heaven? Yet it may be worthwhile to look at the story of this alleged decree, for one can see a myth in the making. 585 decreed that women do not have a soul. ![]() ![]() (Actually, he explicitly denies this no fewer than five times.)
